Community Engagement Liaison

The Whole Child seeks an outgoing, detail-oriented, and self-motivated Community Engagement Liaison to support the organization’s communications, marketing and fundraising activities. The Liaison will be responsible for initiating the engagement and recruitment of mentors in the City of Whittier and surrounding areas specifically for the Imagine Whittier program. The ideal candidate will be highly organized and adept at multitasking, with strong interpersonal skills and an enthusiastic champion for disadvantaged children and the homeless community. This position reports to the Director of Development and is jointly supervised by the Director of Development and the Pastor of Local Engagement at WACC.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with organizations including, but not limited to, faith communities, local businesses, neighborhood councils, rotaries, for-profit corporations, and community members to engage and recruit volunteer mentors
  • Responsible for building, implementing, and executing a community engagement strategy and action plan (supported by other key program staff)
  • Support the training and onboarding process of mentors by collaborating with the Volunteer Coordinator and other key staff
  • Engage and build relationships with SPA 7 resources, community stakeholders, and social service providers (previous familiarity with these entities a plus) to ensure ongoing recruitment of mentors and continuous flow of public and private resources
  • Represent Imagine Whittier on the Homeless Initiative for Green Leaf churches
  • Collaborate with Homeless Initiative team members to enhance Imagine Whitter within the community
  • Participate in the creation of email campaigns including content creation and email lists management
  • Assist in the planning of general TWC events
  • Maintain and build The Whole Child’s presence on social media platforms including LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook
  • Update and maintain Donor Perfect database
  • Help update and maintain website
  • Willingness to assist on development projects as needed

Job Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; preferably in human services, communications, or a related field
  • Part-time, 30 hours per week
  • 2+ years’ experience in communications and/or fundraising
  • Knowledge on families and homelessness is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong in Microsoft suite, Outlook
  • Strong public speaking skills a must
  • Passionate about working with homeless families, at risk families, and motivating the community and the mission in general
  • Nonprofit and Volunteer management experience a plus
  • Collaborative, strong work ethic, detail-oriented, professional attitude, self-motivated, punctual
  • Open to coaching and receiving feedback, and willing to give it
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and deadlines, thrive on problem solving and challenges
  • Ability to wear many hats and to move in and out of various communities (e.g. corporate, multiple faiths, high net worth, and social services) in a single day
  • Own reliable transportation, possess a valid CA driver’s license and have valid auto insurance.

Salary and Benefits: Part-Time/Non-Exempt
